Fall To Winter

A mix of colors in the trees;
Yellows, reds, oranges, and greens.
I feel so alive when I look at these.

Then winter comes; its not fair;
All of these colors just disappear,
But I know they'll come again next year.

In the mean time, I will enjoy this;
For snow gives me a kiss,
In a winter wonderland of endless bliss.

Christmas

Trees are masked with powdered sugar;
With crystals gracefully tumbling towards ground.
Many children are all so eager
To make a snowman, one that's round.

Jack Frost will then awake;
And Children singing his song.
While on a winter break,
Waiting for Christmas to come along.

The tree is lit bright,
With stockings hung in place;
Everyone is filled with delight-
Smiles spread across their face.

All waiting for Santa to come,
To eat cookies and drink milk;
And never stray past one little crumb,
Or glass filled with white silk.

Happy Christmas to all,
For morning is now here.
Passed windows, snowflakes fall-
Christmas is a day we hold most dear.

This poem took me a while to write, just because I had a tough time with the rhyming and the wording. I wanted this poem to remind people (adults or teenagers) when they were kids, and their hopes on Christmas. It wasn't necessarilly for the presents, but just for Santa being there. Children wake up and the first thing that they go see is if Santa ate their cookies or drank their milk. It's not really until after that, that they head to the tree and open presents. I didn't include the opening of presents, because it seems like opening presents now, is just hoping that you get what you wanted. To be honest, when Christmas comes around, I feel that way too; and get disappointed when I don't get what I want. But when I realized that, I decided to write something that talks about what Christmas really is about.
For parents its being able to see that smile on your child's face, knowing that you made their day- you made them happy. For kids, its being able to know that you were a good kid that year; knowing that if you were naughty, you'd get coal. Also, for kids, its being able to believe in something without really seeing it.
I guess that just goes to show that when growing up, that changes. You have to see something in order to believe it, which is kind of sad.
I hope that when people read this poem, they remember the joys of Christmas and how much it made them happy to just believe in something that may or may not be there. It's the holiday when you should "close your eyes, and keep your mind wide open." (That's sort of a quote that I remember from the movie "Bridge to Terabithia."

The Playlist

Ok, so the playlist I made to the right is just about all instrumental. There's probably only one song that has words to it. I put instrumental just because when trying to read something, its not always easy when someone else is talking. Later on though I will be switching off about every month through different songs. Some will have words to it, but will have meaning; like purhaps, "Colors of the Wind" from the Motion Picture Soundtrack Pocahontas would be one.
I hope that you enjoy the playlist and hope that you like the songs I have chosen. This playlist doesn't change to a different song everytime you come to this page, so if you end up getting tired of the song, just let me know, and I'll put a new one in place of the first song. Thank you... and enjoy.

Autumn Leaves

Autumn leaves fall down,
Blowing towards streams, where they float,
'Till winter brings ice.

Now this poem doesn't rhyme, but it is a poem none-the-less. This poem is called a Haiku poem. These poems have three lines with the first containing five syllables the second, seven, and third, five again.
I wrote this poem through the season of Autumn, because this is the season where things change, and in this poem, it does talk about change. This poem was sort of meant to refer to changes of everyday life. "Autumn leaves fall," simply means that a person's life can change everyday. "Blowing towards streams," means, that even though a person's life can change everyday, and you know that the leaf is going to hit the ground; you don't know where. The winds could blow it somewhere else and the leaf may fall no where near the tree it fell off of. "Where they float," is saying that same thing. You don't know where your life is going to take you. You leaf (life) may end up landing in a stream and your life may get rocky, or sometimes it may be smooth. The stream is sort of like the path your life would take; and the leaf is your life traveling on that path.
"'Till winter brings ice," says that going down this stream, these different obsticles will eventually come to a stop for a little while. Do you know what I mean? When that stream freezes or even when there is no more water there, your leaf, you life is sort of put to a stop, and there are no dramatic changes that occur in your life; that is until the stream unfreezes or water fills the stream again.
Life changes, and when it does there are obsticles that a person must overcome. But eventually all of these changes begin to die down. It isn't until the stream moves again that more changes begin to happen in your life.
Its amazing how much meaning a person can put into a short poem. I mean, on the surface they are just words, but when you go deeper; look deeper, you see more meaning and understanding.

A Poem

Lost in translation
Of joy and pain and wonder,
Our strength gave out;
Which man explores in his own amazement
Enough to sew this poem into blanket.

Now this poem was written with a mix of quotes from famous writers like Robert Frost, Christopher Fry, Richard Rosen, Charles Simic, and Kahil Gibran. These quotes were about what they thought the definition of poetry was. With a mix of their quotes I created a poem, which sort of talks about being lost in one's imagination that gives them certain emotions, he/she writes down what they see and it turns out to form a beautiful poem; like a person sewing a beautiful blanket. I sewed together this poem from different quotes. Do you get any of that?
Anyways, this is another one of my favorite poems that I have written, and I hope that it wont be the last.
So far I've been writing about the season of Fall, but I'm hoping that I can sort of get out of that and start writing a variety of topics like love, children playing, things like that. Though at the moment I'm still caught up in the change of colors and describing how the leaves fall, etc. So you'll be hearing a couple more of my poems refering to the seasonal change of Autumn.
Looking out my window, I still see these changes in the season, and I love it. Now I'm just waiting for the snow to come so that I can start writing about snowmen and snowflakes and Christmas trees, etc. Though we still have Thanksgiving before Christmas, so...... Enjoy the colorful leaves before they leave and come back green in Spring.

First Kiss

Walking together, hand in hand,
He is more than just a friend.
Arms around me, holds me close;
When I’m sad and need, a hug
Those are times I need it most.

When it’s cold; winds blow hard
He is there to be my guard.
I feel so safe when he’s with me,
We have so much fun together;
He makes me feel so free and happy.

Remember one night we climbed some trees,
So many in fact, I had dirt on my jeans.
The sun was setting;
I had to go home,
It was a bit upsetting.

Sun gone, the stars now glitter,
No way could this night get bitter.
He takes my hand, and we stroll down the road.
Almost home, he turns and asks
With words that flowed…

“If I kiss you, is that alright?”
I tell him, “Yes,” with delight.
Mind you, I did not foresee;
He held me close, then closed his eyes,
And kissed me.

This poem isn't necessarily about my first kiss, but it felt like it. That night, my boyfriend and I walked around and we did in fact climb some trees, which sounds weird but it was something that we both liked to do, so we had a good time. No, actually that's a lie; we had a great time. And then the walk to my house, he asked if he could kiss me, and I said "Yes." So this is a very personal poem, and in fact my favorite poem so far that I"ve written. I hope that you enjoyed it, there will be more to come. I have another poem in fact called "My First Kiss," which is about the same as this poem, the only difference is that it speaks moreso along the lines of what really happened that night. I should be posting that sometime tomorrow, and if not, when I can.
Now, I haven't been able to do any progress on my book, but no worries, its getting there. I'm still working on the beginning and fitting in the characters, etc. In the meantime, I am, as usual working on this English class that I hope to be getting done by next Saturday. Though I'm not liking it, I am learning a lot and it is helping me so much with my writing, you have no idea.
I am also still writing some poetry, which still keeps coming out, but I'm enjoying it. Depending on how many poems I can write down, maybe I'll end up publishing a book about my poems.
Anyways, I'm going to go and sleep, and then in the morning do school and write somemore, so..... I'm guessing that I may not be doing any typing tomorrow night, because on top of doing school and working on poems and my book, I also have to work.
Well, night for now...... And I take my leave with another graceful exit.

Pine Cones

I look afar in a tree
To see roses perched with glee,
But they were really pine cones you see.

Ok, so this poem I wrote when I was waiting outside to get in for work. The lighting on this tree just showed these bright red or orange-red pine cones, and to me they sort of looked like roses; they were round, sort of, and plus they were far away, so if you just glanced at it, they would have looked like roses. I actually don't even know how this poem even came out to be honest. I just saw this tree, pondered it for a while, and the words just came out. I just wrote what I saw and it turned out to be a poem. Even though its short, I like it, and hope that you do too.
Now about my book..... I'm still unsure about a title. I was actually going to figure that out when I'm writing the middle to end of the book, so that may be a while. I also still have to find a good rising action, climax, and resolution. I got the exposition down, but everything else still needs work. I want this book to be perfect, unexpected, and one that everyone will want to read. I know that's a lot to ask for my first book, but I'm just hoping that happens. Of course it wont compare to other authors, from Stephanie Meyer to John Steinbeck, but I have to try don't I?
In the mean time I'm working on school and writing more poems. These poems just keep coming out, I tell ya. I don't even know where it comes from. I have never been able to write poetry, at least as much as I have now, until I started this English class; and as hard as it may be, it is really helping me a lot with my writing, which is the upside to doing this class. The downside is just not being able to get this done on time and just how hard it is. Other than that, I like it, sort of.
As you can see I added a new header, so I hope that you like it. I also changed the title of the blog from "Writings of a Learning Writer" to "The Art of a Learning Writer: Imagine, Write, Publish" so I hope that you like that. I know that I do. I will add some music when I can, and even maybe put some of my art work on here.....
No, it is not my writing. I already have that one here. I mean actual art; drawings pastel, paintings, etc. And this will only happen if I can get my scanner working. I may even also put picture up that are not ones by me, so I will let you know which pictures are which.
Enjoy more of my writings..... And like I said, I'll write when I can.

One More Thing

Just one more thing to add to today's posting..... I'm going to try to make a playlist that can go with this writings blog. Mind you it might mostly be instrumental, but not the boring kind, I assure you. So no worries about that. As I write on this blog, I'll probably be doing somemore updating on the blog itself, like adding more pictures, and quotes of the day or something like that, so watch out for those.

Thank you.

A Bear

I heard a rustling by the dumpster
But really it was just a numpster.
A bear digging through the trash,
Looking for a snack but instead found cash.

This poem, I wrote because one night when I was taking out the trash at work, I saw a bear. He was in fact digging through the trash looking for what looked like a yummy bean burrito. I was so amazed that I just kept staring at the bear; and the bear didn't seem to mind that I was standing there. I mean he didn't chase me or anything, which I'm happy about because this is my first bear. Which is just lame on my part because I've lived up here for like four and a half years now and people up here pretty much see bears like every month or something. Now I know that "numpster" isn't a word, but I don't know..... its the only word that I could think of that rhymed with dumpster, whether I made it up or not. Its a fun word to say... numpster, numpster, numpster. Anyway, the word I guess means like a prowler or something. And this bear didn't find cash... That would have been cool if he had, but he didn't. I just sort of added that for my own amusement. I thought that it would add something funny to the poem.
Now I'm busy with school at the moment, but I am getting many ideas for this book I want to write and hopefully one day publish, and I'm writing those ideas down.
I'll hopefully be able to write what this book is about without giving anything away. I'm still working on what the climax is and who all the minor characters are going to be. So I will give you more updates on that when I can. But right now I also have to concentrate on my school right now, so I may not write everyday. As you can see, there's a big cap between my first entry and this one.
I'll write when I can, and as school goes, I am working on an English class that focuses mostly on the writing of different eras, which is good time right now to be learning about that; because it will help me more with my writing. I'm also doing some poetry in this class, which is also helping both with understanding poetry and helping me with my writing. In fact, ever since I started poetry in this class, I've been writing nonstop poetry. Its crazy. But its dying down now that I'm trying to focus more on school.
Well, more updates later, back to school so bye for now.
